Polydyne YD 381 Extender Base is a special clear base or topcoat designed for use with Polydyne YD series inks on polyolefin substrates (PP/PE) — especially in applications where the printed surface may be subject to high levels of manipulation, sliding, friction or constant torso/hand impact.
The documents state that "for ... applications which are subjected to frequent handling the inks should be overvarnished with YD-381 Extender Base to avoid smearing of color."
It is also noted that Polydyne YD White (YD021) or Extender Base (YD381) does not contain barium (barium compounds), so it may be safer to use when the object may be touched, groped, etc.
