Flint Group confirms that its European-manufactured flexographic UV-curable printing ink series for food contact materials (FCM) meet all compositional requirements set out in the 21st Ordinance amending the Consumer Goods Ordinance (known as the German Printing Ink Ordinance – GIO).
Flint Group is informing printers seeking compliance that this approval applies to its flexographic UV and LED curable inks and coatings for printing on non-food contact surfaces in the production of food packaging, labels and other packaging. This includes the Flexocure® ANCORA and EkoCure® ANCORA product lines, as well as the latest innovation, Flexocure® LEAP.
Most products were previously compliant; however, some of the relevant products have had their formulations reviewed and, where necessary, updated to ensure compliance with the new GIO regulations. From 3 November 2025, Flint Group Europe’s UV curable FCM flexographic inks are fully GIO compliant. For specific product questions, it is recommended that you contact your usual Flint Group representative.
The GIO sets out specific compliance requirements for printing inks used on materials that come into contact with food. The order applies to all such materials:
- for paints used on the food contact side,
- paints that are not intended for contact with food but may come into direct contact with it,
- and for inks used on the non-food contact side (for surface printing or intermediate layers in laminates).
When printing on the non-food contact side, the use of substances not included in the list is permitted, provided that they are not CMR substances (carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction) and their migration is not detectable (detection limit – 0.01 mg/kg).
The GIO will enter into force on January 1, 2026.
